Gridiron Classic Tournament Rules

GA HIGH SCHOOL RULES WILL GOVERN THIS TOURNAMENT WITH SOME EXCEPTIONS

CERTIFICATION

  1. Weigh-in cannot take place before game.
  2. All player's names must be on the roster. A certified copy of each player's birth certificate must be on file. The seal of the issuing office of the state of birth must be present. This is the best guarantee of reliability of claimed birth date.
  3. Acceptable I.D.'s include: Passports, Military ID cards, State ID cards, certified adoption papers, and certified wallet certificates issued by a state.
  4. Once your team have been certified, they will receive a band that is to be worn the entire tournament. All players must wear a band to play. A replacement fee of $5.00 will be charged for all lost or broken bands and recertification is required.

CLOCK

  • All games will consist of (2) 20-minute halves, 5-minute half time, and running clock until the last two minutes. Each team will receive two timeouts per half and five-minute halftime. There is a continuous clock with the exception of timeouts and injuries. The last two minutes, the clock runs under high school clock rules. To begin each quarter, clock starts on the snap or kick. Following a timeout, the clock starts on the snap! After a score, a conversion attempt (kick or run/pass), the clock will stop AFTER the attempt until the ball is spotted for play. Example: After the conversion attempt, the clock stops and the player walks the ball to the 40 (if kicking age) or 30 (if non-kicking age) and spot it and start the clock.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES

  • (4) eight-minute quarters

GAME PLAY RULES AND PROCEDURES

  1. 6U No lining over the center
  2. 6U-9U No punting the ball. If the ball is not beyond midfield on 4th down, they can elect to walk off 20 yards or go for it on the aforementioned down.
  3. The 10–12-year-old players must punt or go for it on 4th down.
  4. After the point-for-try, the ball is placed on the 20-yard line. After they try for the extra point, teams can start on offense and defense).
  5. Penalties for delayed game: If a team commits two consecutive delay-of game penalties, the clock will stop until the next legally snapped play. This will prevent teams from running out the clock.
  6. Scoring on Try’s: 1 point for running, 2 points for passing
  7. If your team arrives late to the game: examples include traffic, overslept, etc., your team will receive a loss for that game.
  8. Coaches only will be allowed to wear Radio headsets on the sideline.
  9. Only one coach is allowed on the field during regular gameplay for the 6, & 7-year-old players. That coach is restricted from interfering in any manner of play. The offense coach should be about ten plus yards behind the ball once it is snapped. Defense coaches should be about 10-15 yards back from the ball once the ball is snapped. If officials determine that a coach interferes, that coach will be removed from the field of play to the sideline for the duration of that game. Consequently, that team forfeits the right to have a coach on the field for the remainder of the game. If a coach decides to begin the game on the sideline, he will not be allowed to move onto the field of play after the game begins.
  10. If any coach, player, or spectator is ejected by a referee, field representative, or security personnel, the ejection will be for the remainder of that game and continue throughout that team’s next game.
  11. For the safety and concern of the athletes, players may only participate in one age division and for one team only.
  12. Fighting: If you/your team fights you/your team will be automatically disqualified for the remainder of the tournament. There must be no fighting, without exception. If a parent (s) causes a disruption or disturbance on the property or on the field, he or she will be expelled from the tournament or arrested. If a parent is expelled, they cannot return for the duration of the tournament. If he or she returns, they will be arrested for Criminal Trespass.
  13. The GA High School Rules Association will decide on all tied games.
  14. All coaches, players, and managers must remain between the 25-yard line markers. Only four coaches and 2 managers are allowed on the sideline and the coaches and managers must be listed on the team’s roster prior to first game.
  15. Foul language: There will be no foul language used on the field or sideline by coaches or players. First offense will receive a warning. Second offense will receive an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties assessed during a game result in the head coach being ejected.
  16. Smoking and alcohol use are prohibited in the stands or on the sidelines before, or after all games. Officials will charge an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for any violation and the person will be ejected from the playing field.

COACHES

  • The head coach has the responsibility to rectify any discipline issues at the sideline. In the event of an issue – the game doesn’t start again until the head coach gets the group under control.

SPECIAL TEAMS

  • No WALKED OFF punts can penetrate inside the 20-yard line. No punts inside the 40-yard line (team MUST go for it).

SECURITY

  • Due to the increase in violence and crime during football games, security measures have been put in place. Only clear bags are allowed in the game. No book bags (including players). Baby bags are acceptable but will be subject to an extensive security check. Coaches will also be subject to a security checks.
